94' Toyota Celica - Ian Duncan

This Rally T-Shirt is based on local veteran Kenyan Rally Driver Ian Duncan and his 1994 Toyota Celica. Ian Duncan and his codriver David Williamson entered the Safari Rally in 1994, with a Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD (ST185) sponsored by by the local "Flying Sausage" business amongst others.

The Car:

The Celica GT-Four ST165 made its World Rally Championship (WRC) debut in the 1988 Tour de Corse, with its first WRC victory coming in the 1989 Rally Australia. The ST185's WRC debut was in the 1992 Rally Monte Carlo, and its first WRC win was in the 1992 Safari Rally, which was one of its four victories in that year. The ST185 is Toyota's most successful rally car. It won the WRC Drivers' Championship in 1992, and the WRC Manufacturers' and Drivers' championships in 1993 and 1994. The ST205 came in late 1994, and became the official rally car in 1995 with one WRC victory. It also won the 1996 European Rally Championship.

The Driver:

Ian Duncan (born June,1961) is a local veteran rally driver who has been in the local African rally scene for decades and considered to be one of Kenya's most successful rally drivers. He was Kenyan Rally Champion six times (1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2000 and 2011),[1] and achieved outright victory in a World Rally Championship round when he won the 42nd Trustbank Safari Rally in 1994. This was one of seven consecutive top ten finishes in the event from 1990–1996, despite its notorious attrition rate.

In 2011 he won the Kenyan National Rally Championship for the sixth time. He also entered the 2011 Classic Safari Rally as a defending champion, driving a Ford Capri, he finished seventh. In 2012 he came close to winning his second Safari Rally, at the time with ARC status, but lost to local rival Carl Tundo by just 15 seconds.
